Occupational health and safety forum from today
MUSCAT The second Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Conference & Exhibition, OHS – A Strategic Business Approach, will be inaugurated by HE Dr Ali Bin Talib Al Hinai, the Undersecretary for Planning Affairs, Ministry of Health on Monday. 

The second in the series of OHS conferences and exhibitions, the two-day event is being organised by Al Mada International Exhibitions in association with Oman Society of Contractors, a press release from the company said. 

Saeed Bin Sultan Bin Yarub Al Busaidi, MD of Al Mada International Exhibitions said, “The OHS 2013 is organised with the support of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and other major governmental ministries and authorities,” Saeed Bin Sultan Bin Yarub Al Busaidi said. Omran is the Gold sponsor. Qalhat LNG, Port of Sohar and Oman LNG are silver sponsors. 

Speaking about Oman Society of Contractor’s (OSC) association and partnership for OHS 2013, CEO of OSC Salim Talib Al Sheedi said OSC has strived to encourage and implement occupational health and safety measures in the industry. This association is in continuation with our policy to uphold the contractors’ commitment towards occupational health and safety. In continuation with OSC’s efforts, he said “we will announce the calling of entries for the second HSE Awards 2013 to be presented next month. The awards will be presented at the IOSH Oman launch next month, on April 22”

Speakers from international organisations such as ILO, ALO, WHO, RoSPA will present papers on latest developments and international standards on OHS, the release added.

Issa Al Shuaili  from National Committee  for Occupational Health & Safety, Nabil Watfa from International Labour Organisation (ILO), Roger Marks, National Safety Council (NSC), Rob Burgon from Royal Society for Prevention of Accident (RoSPA),  Said Arnaout from World Health Organisation (WHO), Rania Rouchdie, Arab Labour Organisation (ALO), Peter Hamel, Shaleem Petroleum S.A.O.C,  N Porchelvan from Galfar Engineering & Contracting LLC, Khalifa Al Maskari from Modern Laboratories  LLC  (MODAL-Oman) and John Punter from Oxy Oman are the key speakers.

The conference focuses on encouraging participants to, contribute with ideas and methods to set up short and long term OHS development strategies to improve their knowledge and skills. Designing a professional and strategic business approach towards meeting OHS challenges in the different industries is the key area where this Conference will work on, Sheedi added.
